Lesson Information

  • First Day

Skaters will be divided into groups based on their level. They will focus mostly on learning the skills at their level and work towards passing the levels listed in the curriculum above. Skaters may be moved groups only after testing by approved Test Coaches.

Skaters begin practice with Stroking. Stroking in figure skating is a foundational exercise that helps skaters develop strong, controlled, and powerful gliding across the ice. For parents, think of stroking as the "running drills" of figure skating — it teaches skaters how to properly push and glide using deep edges, good posture, and rhythm. Stroking builds endurance, speed, balance, edge control, all of which are critical for more advanced skills like jumps and spins. While it might not look like much, strong stroking is what gives skaters smooth, effortless movement and makes every other skill more polished and efficient.

*Parents are not allowed on the ice or in the players box, during practice.

  • Equipment Needed

Skaters will need skates, warm clothes, and mitten/gloves. Helmets are recommended.
